The topic of the new regulatory framework for legal practice was the subject of the evening’s presentation and Steve Mark – Legal Services Commissioner for NSW, canvassed a number of differing aspects of it during his presentation.
The presentation covered the reforms instituted by the April 2009 meeting of the Council of Australian Governments and the draft uniform legal profession legislation which has arisen out of their deliberations.
The presentation went on to discuss outcomes based regulation, enhanced professional responsibilities and ethics, new regulatory bodies to oversee the national profession, how the national law will impact on practice and costs
The last part of his presentation addressed the issue of Principle, Proportionality and Informed Consent.
