We are very pleased to be able to present the second member event this year in collaboration with ALPMA. Our first seminar proved to be very successful and is now being repeated in the Parramatta region.

Incorporation – Consolidation, Case Studies, Listings and the Law Firm of the Future - 13th August 2008

Key Note Speakers:
Dr Gillian McAllister and Associate Professor John Gray School of Management, University of Western Sydney and John Chisholm, John Chisholm Consulting

Dr McAllister’s and Associate Professor Gray, of the Professional Services Research Group with UWS, have undertaken a research project focused on the medium sized and smaller law firms of Greater Western Sydney.

They will cover:

Why have some firms chosen to incorporate?

What are the practical advantages and disadvantages of incorporation?

How might these new governance structures change legal practice?

John Chisholm was previously a partner at Maddocks Lawyers for 18 years, including Managing Partner for 8, and Chief Executive of Middletons for over 5 years. In 2005 John established his own consultancy to share his expertise worldwide with professional service firms which look to maximise their business performance.

In this session, his thoughts however will revolve around what he believes good law firms might look like in the future – how they will

First Member Event – April 17th 2008

Our first member event of the year was a joint presentation with QL joining with the Australian Legal Practice Management Association (ALPMA) in organising it

This was the first occasion at which both ALPMA www.alpma.com.au and QL worked together, was well attended and raised a great deal of interested discussion.

The presenters were Dr Gillian McAllister with Assoc. Prof. John Gray, UWS School of Management and Dr Peter Ellender, CEO Carter Newell.

Dr Gillian McAllister and Professor Gray presented the preliminary results of their research into Incorporated Legal Practices and Dr Peter Ellender outlined his views on the long term impact that Incorporation may have on legal practices. Dr Ellender is also a member of the QL Board.
